7 destinations in Latin America you must visit

Latin America has no shortage of interesting and appealing destinations for travelers that wish to experience the local cultures of its countries. With so many options to choose from, it might be hard to pick just one or know where to start, but below we recommend some of the hottest destinations right now. Even though there are many more, these cities have become hotspots for the well-versed travelers for a reason, and we share why.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Often called The Paris of the South, Buenos Aires has become a city for those that appreciate diverse ideas, styles and tastes. The city is covered in parks, many designed by French landscaper Charles Thays, and within each neighborhood between them you can find museums, delicious restaurants and cultural happenings. Buenos Aires offers an excellent craft-beer scene, making it a great spot for beer lovers, and the gastronomic culture of using local, raw ingredients and hyper-specializations have given birth to an interesting food scene. The eclecticism of the city is felt from the more artistic neighborhoods, such as Colegiales, to the more European-influenced once like San Telmo.

Bogotá, Colombia

This Colombian city has definitely joined the list as one of the hottest destinations in Latin American. The city’s transformation into a hotspot is ongoing in each of its multiple neighborhoods, each with its own offerings and vibe. With a height of 2,600 meters over the sea level, there is a possibility you might get dizzy and suffer from lack of breath, what locals call soroche, but once you take one of the local remedies such as hot agua de panela, you will be ready to explore what the city has to offer.

Mexico City

With unrivalled hospitality, endless culinary offerings (from world-class restaurants to the best tacos in a street stand), cultural events, interesting history starting from its foundation and a vibrant nightlife scene, it’s no wonder these last few years have seen a myriad of expats from all over the world flocking over to call Mexico City their new home. The art and design scene flourishes with each passing day with the remnants of the bigs, such as Frida Khalo and Luis Barragán, and it’s worth mentioning that Mexico City is the city with more museums in the world. With over 22 million inhabitants you will be able to find everything you’re looking for, from hip and laid-back neighborhoods such as La Condesa, to more posh areas like Polanco and Bosques.

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

Located at the Andes at 3,700 m over sea level, it is well worth a visit to take in the splendor of this natural marvel, especially during raining season (January to march) when the salar becomes an immense mirror that reflects the sky above making it even more impressive. Besides, it contains the biggest lithium reserve in the planet, plus an estimated 10,000 million tons of salt.

Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

Cartagena has been named Patrimonio Historico y Cultural de la Humanidad for a reason. The walled area of the city greets visitors with a mix of colors and sounds that are the embodiment of Colombian vibes.

One of the new seven wonders of the world, Machu Pichu will surely captivate you. Surrounded by mountains
